FAQs
What MAKES SOUTH COUNTY CHEEr DIFferenT?
1
At South County Cheer we are a Cheer-Focused Youth Sports Organization that coaches to the athletes on each team. Team placement is based on community and social/emotional needs without the anxiety of team try-outs. SCC coaches are trained to take the young athletes they have on each team and guide them into their most successful season, meeting athletes where they are and helping them grow each week.
DO SOUTH COUNTY CHEERLEADERS CHEER AT FOOTBALL GAMES?
2
While SCC is part of American Youth Football & Cheer, South County Cheer does not currently have a football team nearby to cheer for. If and when an American Youth Football Team joins the area, South County Cheer would be very happy to cheer on the players.
How old do athletes need to be to join SCC?
3
Athletes must be 7 through 14 years old on July 1st, 2026 to be eligible to participate in the 2026/2027 South County Cheer Season.
How will i know what Team my Athlete is joining?
4
SCC team rosters are created to ensure the safety, growth and success of all athletes in our program. Athletes will be placed on teams based on a variety of factors including their age and current tumbling skills. Team rosters will be finalized by the end of June.
CAN i request a team for my athlete?
5
We love it when we can make things work for the program and make people happy. Requests can always be made, but will only be granted if and when the team’s best interest is also accommodated within said request.
What if my athlete doesn’t tumble?
6
Tumbling is not required to join an SCC Team. However, if your cheerleader is hoping to cheer competitively in High School, we do hope that you are investing in tumbling lessons for your athlete all-year long. Most local High School Cheer Teams place a great deal of emphasis on tumbling in the try-out process. The older an athlete gets the harder it is for them to earn those big tumbling skills like back handsprings, tucks and layouts.
HOW ARE COACHES TRAINED?
7
SCC Coaches are all seasoned volunteer cheer coaches and extremely dedicated to their teams. Every SCC Coach is trained annually by the Youth Cheer and Dance Alliance (YCADA). All our SCC Coaches must hold up-to-date certificates in AYC YCADA Coaching, Mandated Reporting, CPR and First-Aid.
IS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE?
8
SCC is very committed to doing everything we can to keep costs transparent and as low as possible. We have carefully spread out fees to be mindful of family budgets while still allowing SCC to be able to cover new season costs as they come in. Beginning in May 2026, there will be Individual Fundraising Opportunities available for those who would like assistance covering Uniform, League, Team and even Travel Fees. Fundraising funds must be earned by the fee due date in order to reduce amount owed. At the end of the season, any unused funds raised by an athlete will be refunded.
What travel fees are to be expected?
9
Families are responsible to get their cheerleader to and from all events and competitions. All anticipated showcases & scheduled competitions are within a daily driving distance with the exception of AYC Nationals and Jamz Nationals.
Athletes attending AYC Nationals will be responsible for their hotel, team and comp registration fees. These fees will be due in-full as early as November 1st. SCC will let you know the exact expected costs as soon as it is published. Athletes attending AYC must travel with an adult. Coaches cannot be responsible for athletes unless they are their children. Air travel to Orlando, FL, ground transportation in Orlando, FL, meals and any extra activities are not included in these fees and must be booked separately by each family.
Athletes attending Jamz Nationals will be responsible for their team fees for this competition. These fees should be incorporated into the original team budget in July. Athletes attending JAMZ Nationals must travel with an adult. Coaches cannot be responsible for athletes unless they are their children. Hotel rooms, travel to Las Vegas, NV, ground transportation in Las Vegas, NV, meals and any extra activities are the responsibility of each family and must be booked separately by each family.
Most travel fees will vary by family choice and time of booking. Competitions are subject to advancement eligibility and date change, so if booking anything early, it is recommended that you book a refundable room or plane ticket. SCC is not responsible for family travel booking fees or cancellation penalties.
